du'Anyam

This GPI project is aiming to improve maternal health outcomes in Indonesia and will be sending its first travel team in August 2014. They recently won $5000 in the Spring IDEAS Global Challenge competition at MIT.
du'Anyam's innovative business model takes advantage of pre-existing farming communities that come together to help a farmer in need. Currently, mothers continue to perform heavy agricultural labor right until childbirth and many cannot afford prenatal or hospital care leading to poor maternal health outcomes. du'Anyam seeks to provide expectant mothers with another revenue source through production of artesenal weaved crafts. Communities will work together to provide a set amount of these products to hotels, restaurants and stores. In the last trimester, the expectant mother will be responsible for providing a larger share of these goods for her farming community while the others help her perform her agricultural duties.
